Why every landscape needs shrubs
Shrubs are the workhorses of the garden. They provide year-round structure, seasonal flowers, autumn colour, winter berries, and wildlife habitat — all while requiring far less maintenance than most perennials or annuals.
Whether you need a flowering hedge for privacy, an evergreen foundation planting, a pollinator magnet, or a specimen plant that stops traffic in bloom, there's a shrub that fits. Most live for decades with minimal care, making them the best long-term investment in your landscape.
Evergreen or deciduous, shrubs anchor your garden design through every season.
Once established, most shrubs need only occasional pruning and seasonal feeding.
Hedging shrubs create living walls — more beautiful and longer-lasting than fencing.
Berry-producing and flowering shrubs support birds, bees, and butterflies year-round.
Our most popular varieties — trusted by gardeners for reliability, beauty, and easy care.
Narrow the whole range by what the plant does — bloom, scent, winter structure, hardiness.

Lilac, gardenia, daphne — scent you plant by the door.

Simple guidelines for healthy, beautiful shrubs
Set the root ball level with the surrounding soil. Planting too deep suffocates roots; too shallow exposes them.
New shrubs need consistent deep watering — about 1 inch per week — until roots are established. After that, most are fairly self-sufficient.
A 2–3 inch layer of organic mulch retains moisture, suppresses weeds, and feeds the soil as it breaks down. Keep mulch away from stems.
Spring bloomers (lilac, azalea): prune right after flowering. Summer bloomers (butterfly bush, hydrangea): prune in late winter or early spring.
A slow-release balanced fertilizer in early spring gives shrubs the fuel they need for the growing season ahead.
Choose shrubs rated for your hardiness zone. A Zone 5 garden needs different shrubs than a Zone 8 garden.
