good to know
What 1B means for your plants
- 1
Every frost-free week counts
Plant the moment the ground can be worked, and choose plants that bloom quickly.
- 2
Stick to Zone 1 ratings
Only plants rated to Zone 1 come back reliably. Treat anything else as a one-season annual.
- 3
Snow is your friend
A deep snow cover insulates roots. Pile it over low shrubs and perennials in winter.
- 4
Shelter from the wind
Plant against a south-facing wall or fence for extra warmth and protection.
